Dec 25 - Wat U Mong - The Forest Temple (Read from bottom up)

A thoroughly modern sign announces the site of
Wat Umong.

At the end of our visit, we came upon this artificial pond, the island
of which was being remodeled. There were huge catfish one
could feed, and turtles as well as cats that seemed to belong
to the cottages lining the perimeter of the pond.

Near the chedi against the jungle backdrop is this
emaciated depiction of the Lord Buddha. This style,
showing him during his fasting period was popular
for about a century at one time, but there are not
many around anymore.

The principle chedi was quite large and one wondered at
the weight of it over the tunnels. There was also the
remnants of a former honey bee colony near the top. Now
that would be a place left undisturbed!

A number of tablets were leaned against the outside of the "Spiritual
Theater"building wherein were murals painted in the 60's by
monks depicting Dhamma lessons, allegories and metaphors.
