Dec 29 - Just an Hour's Bus Ride Away - Nampuhn

What this trip was supposed to be about was checking
into small town places with potential to set up housekeeping for
a few months at a time. We found that without language
skills or a means of transportation, we were ill-prepared
to do much searching on our own. We walked some
side streets of town and actually found an empty
house. Realizing that there was only so much
walking we could do, we had to give up, find a lunch,
and act more like simple tourists.

Crossing the covered bridge we came upon this temple
sponsored community weaving cooperative. The few
ladies there that day were justly proud of their
products. Their friendliness and smiles were great fun.
I had been fighting my addiction for buying textiles
of any kind just because I didn't want this trip to be
about buying, but succumbed in this instance.

A couple of blocks away was a pleasant water feature
that seemed to be the object of some development, care and effort
on the part of the municipality.

These little guys were more than tiny, they were tenacious
and yet they seemed a little tenuous tucked in their little crevice
cracks at the base of the tall stupa.

Lampuhn is home to one of the 8 most
important temples in the country. It was
clearly very popular given the sheer number
of visitors this day. It was also just a pleasant
place to be. This is the first of our forays
into nearby towns to try to get a sense
of their potential for "life as we'd like
to know it."
